Botox and Juvederm
DrO Medical & Wellness Center uses BOTOX® and Juvederm® as a non-surgical, safe and effective treatment of facial wrinkles, lines and folds.
BOTOX® is used to treat frown lines on forehead, crow’s feet around eyes, and the furrows between eyebrows. After a simple treatment session, you can expect to see your fine lines and wrinkles diminish within a few days, and you can expect the effects to last four to six months.
BOTOX® was originally approved for the treatment of uncontrollable facial and eyelid spasms, as well as for eye muscle dysfunctions such as crossed eyes (strabismus or double vision) during the 1980s. As a remarkable side benefit of BOTOX®, many patients noticed that the wrinkles around their eyes were diminished and began asking for further treatments to achieve this wrinkle-reducing effect.
How BOTOX® Cosmetic works?
When injected directly into overactive facial muscles, BOTOX® temporarily blocks the transmission of nerve impulses to relax the facial muscles, thereby reducing or eliminating the appearance of wrinkles.
BOTOX® treatment, offered at DrO Medical & Wellness Center, takes only about 10 minutes. After making sure you are comfortable, a small amount of BOTOX® is injected into the overactive facial muscles causing your wrinkles. You will begin to see the results of smoother, younger-looking skin within three days. The effect of the treatment can last four to six months. Touch-ups are needed to maintain results.
Who Can Have BOTOX®?
Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 65. BOTOX® treatment cannot be administered to individuals that are pregnant, have ongoing infection, or are allergic to BOTOX®.
Before and After Treatment
It is recommended that patients must avoid taking Aspirin or using VitaminE and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen, Aleve & Advil, one week before BOTOX® treatment, as these medications may increase bruising.
Avoid massaging the treated area after BOTOX® treatment, to avoid spread of medication into unwanted areas. However, patients can help prevent bruising by placing ice on treated area intermittently for a few minutes following treatment.
Possible side effects of BOTOX® treatment include headache, flu like symptoms, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea. Your medical history is reviewed before BOTOX® is administered.

Juvederm® is an injectable gel used as is a facial filler to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds that extend from your nose to the corners of your mouth (often referred to as parentheses). It is also used to enhance lips.
Back In the 1930s, medical researchers at Columbia University discovered that one of the main functions of hyaluronic acid is to maintain skin volume and hydration. By the 1990s, hyaluronic acid began to be used for facial tissue enhancement. Juvederm® contains hyaluronic acid as its main ingredient.
How Does it Work?
Juvederm’s absorbs water up to 1,000 times its own weight, allowing it to add volume to skin folds. The hyaluronic acid inside the Juvederm® causes the skin to create new collagen (a protein we normally lose with age). It also prevents the breakdown of the collagen you have present.
Juvederm® is gently injected under the skin in minutes. Volume is immediately added to the wrinkles and folds in the treated areas. Result is seen instantly and there is very minimal recovery time.
Temporary redness, pain and tenderness during injection, and swelling and bruising at the injection sites are often seen. More serious side effects include facial lumps and bumps known as granulomas. Juvéderm® is not be used in patients with severe allergies, particularly those who have a history of anaphylaxis.
